A forklift is a tool or vehicle that is very helpful in moving, lifting, and arranging goods or components neatly and properly.

Like other machinery and lifting equipment, the mechanical parts of a forklift also experience wear when the forklift is operated continuously. In order to provide efficiency for forklifts that can be used in the long term, proper forklift maintenance is required so that they can be used well and comfortably, as well as to minimize the possibility of work accidents that may occur due to inadequate and improper forklift maintenance. 

In forklift maintenance, there is a forklift maintenance checklist or forklift maintenance form so that maintenance can be easier and faster. For electric forklift maintenance or engine forklift maintenance, the basics are the same, only the energy source is different. Periodic forklift maintenance must be carried out properly according to the forklift's working hours. 

Forklift Maintenance Tips 

The following are some forklift maintenance tips that can be carried out: 

1. Apply lubricant (grease) to the actively moving parts 

In forklift maintenance, the forklift has several actively moving parts such as the lift chain, pedals for supporting the front fork, or the fork itself. Make sure these moving joint parts are not dry, because the friction that occurs during forklift use will negatively impact forklift performance if these joint parts are dry. 

3. Make sure the forklift is fully charged (electric forklift) 

Electric forklifts are forklifts whose power source is from batteries. For forklift types that use battery, gas, and electric power for electric forklifts, they must be ensured to be fully charged or charged before forklift operation, to avoid running out of battery at the time of lifting. 

4. Make sure the Forklift 

Gauges are working correctly The Forklift Gauges on the instrument panel function to provide an indication when there are some parts that are damaged or malfunctioning. Therefore, it must be ensured that this instrument functions properly so that damage to other parts can be known correctly and properly. 

5. Make sure forklift tires are in good condition 

In forklift maintenance, tires are one of the factors that affect the performance of a forklift, one of which is ensuring that the air pressure in the tires must comply with the forklift's standard manual. This is to ensure that when the load is lifted or carried, it remains stable, and so that the power or force produced by the forklift is stable. 

Forklift Maintenance Schedule 

To maintain the performance of the forklift, it is mandatory to maintain it regularly and also have the right maintenance schedule. Regular forklift maintenance schedules can be done as follows: 

 A. Periodic Service I ( 250 Hours / 1 Month ) 

1. Engine oil change. 

2. Check and replace the fuel filter. 

3. Replace the engine oil filter. 

4. Greasing for all lubricating nipples on moving components 

5. Check and clean the fuel filter. 

6. Check and clean air cleaning. 

7. Check the working function of the clutch / automatic 

8. Check the working function of the forklift hydraulic system. 

9. Check the working function of the accessories. 

10. Check and adjust the rotation of the machine. 

11. Check and adjust the tension of the refrigerant vanbelt. 

12. Check and adjust the tension of the lifting chain. 

13. Check the condition of the tires and the fastening nuts. 

14. Check the condition of the fork and attachment. 

15. Check and adjust brake work function 

16. Check and adjust the radius of the Rotate. 

17. Check and add hydraulic oil and coolant B. 

Periodic Service II ( 1000 Hours / 1 Year ) 

1. Tasks from periodic service I. 

2. Drain the fuel tank. 

3. Drain the hydraulic tank. 

4. Check and replace the transmission or differential oil. 

5. Check and replace the hydraulic oil. 

6. Check and clean the hydraulic oil strainer. 

7. Check the forklift engine compression pressure. 

8. Check / clean / replace nozzles / spark plugs / contact points. 

9. Check and adjust the hydraulic oil working pressure. 

10. Replace the hydraulic filter.
